Can you recommend books or movies that will be family-friendly and safe for my kids to watch?
Character Entertainment highlights the positive messages contained in certain media products or programs. However, it does not simultaneously screen products for offensive content. What may be morally offensive to one purchaser may not be a hindrance to other purchasers, who can still appreciate that product’s positive message.
For example, in its realistic depiction of the Holocaust, the film, “Schindler’s List” contains all manner of offensive content, yet provides a powerful message of self-sacrifice, courage, humility, and compassion that many viewers should not miss. In this case, the individual viewer must decide whether offensive content can be ignored for the sake of a valuable life lesson, portrayed with gritty realism.
Character Entertainment serves to promote the moral influence of media products, to demonstrate the character qualities that we should seek out, rather than alerting consumers as to what they should avoid.
Also, for each product referenced, Character Entertainment provides a link to the item on amazon.com. There, you can review feedback from other users to gain a better idea of a product’s content. This is an excellent start to learning more about a product before renting or purchasing it. You can also refer to our Links page for other great review sites. Clubhouse Magazine provides an excellent list of Movie Reviews for kids covering almost any film your kids might want to see.
Do you only promote films that are rated G & PG?
Character Entertainment seeks to promote moral character traits that are portrayed in films and other media, regardless of the product’s rating. Many stories that are rated as “safe” or “family-friendly” present morals that work against families and genuine character. Some of the best life lessons are found in books and movies that don’t carry a “family-friendly” rating.
A G or PG rating has to do with the limited amount (not the absence) of socially offensive content, such as foul language, sex, or graphic violence. In G- or PG-rated films, these elements may still be present or strongly suggested, but not graphically portrayed. This alone is not sufficient to determine whether a media product is good for you, or for your children.
Please refer to the amazon.com product links for feedback from other purchasers to help determine if a product is right for you. If you’re seeking products for your children, it is always a good idea to view it yourself before presenting it to the whole family.
Do you only promote Christian media?
No. While Character Entertainment will promote certain products that originate in the Christian market, it does not limit itself to such products. Character Entertainment promotes Christian moral values that are presented in fiction and entertainment. It does not discount the presentation of those values based on other content in that particular product, or the personal lives of any of its producers or participants.
